Directing debut

We were introduced to a play called Changi about the Singaporean political party a couple months ago before the mocks to practice because in the mocks we had to answer questions on it about Changi such as how we would dress a character and how we would stage scenes. I felt as if we did not have enough time to go over Changi so the mock questions on it felt a bit rushed.

For the directing scene I chose scene 4, an interrogation scene. In it is 3 interrogators and Changi, the interrogators played by Nora, Ellen, and Katherine, and Changi played by Bastien. I staged the scene with a single desk, chair and had Changi seated with the interrogators standing over the desk to show roles and power, with the interrogators showing obvious power. I used several pauses to emphasize dramatic dialogue and moments. I also wanted to show in my piece that Changi was defending himself.

In my directing piece I used two different dramatic strategies, 1) thought tracking 2) conscious alley.

Overall I think my directing piece went well but could have went much better, I felt as I knew what I wanted to explain but had some difficulty explaining it. I also felt as if there was not enough time to practice. I was also still a bit unfamiliar with the play but thought the actors did a very good job.
